◎ Background/History:
Born to high standing members in the court of the Ghastly Eyrie, Dragonus's fate was decided for him as a child by the goddess Scree'auk; he would be the next Skywrath Mage, chosen to protect both their Queen and their people from all threats and dangers that loomed both within and beyond their lofty homes. While this great burden was placed upon him he had the pleasures of a high ranking lifestyle, including growing up alongside the princess he would one day serve, Princess Shendelzare. Both feeling the weight of their imposing duties to their people, Dragonus and Shendelzare became close friends and confides. It would be safe to say that Dragonus loved her as much as he loved his own family.

Over time, Dragonus was trained in preparation for his future. While his affection for Shendelzare never waned, he locked himself into deep studying, determined to fully understand and master the most advanced of all Skywrath sorcery. Unfortunately this meant he was oblivious to the warning signs of deceit and treachery emerging within the court. As he remained couped up in his studies, a violent coup swept through the Eyrie. Before Dragonus emerged, Shendelzare had been disposed of and her sister placed upon the throne of the Nest of Thorns in her place.

Dragonus was heartbroken at the loss of his oldest and dearest friend and powerless to retaliate. The magic of the Skywrath Mage is locked in blood to the throne itself - if he were to attack the new Queen, his power would desert him for betraying this oath. Although he hated her with every drop of his soul, Dragonus kneeled to her in order to remain the Court Mage, hoping that his position will allow him to one day gain revenge for Shendelzare and still wishing to protect his people and serve his goddess.

It was later that he discovered Shendelzare had not been killed by the assassin that had pursued her. Rather she had torn her wings apart to escape their net and had limped away on foot - the greatest insult to any Skywrath. She then turned to the goddess Scree'auk, the same whose power runs through Dragonus' blood, and traded her crippled body to become the very embodiment of revenge. Since then Dragonus has constantly studied between his duties and his appearances in court, dreaming of finding a way to restore Shendelzare to a fully healed form and restoring her as Queen of the Skywrath.

Some time after, he heard news of a curious war below the Eyrie, one of tremendous consequence that saw many fabled and legendary heroes gather to prove themselves in battle. On behalf of the skywrath Dragonus took flight and arrived upon the fallen fields, unaware that he would both face and work alongside many familiar faces in an endless war that could very well determine the fate of their world.

◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? No.

◎ Personality:
Dragonus is a gentle, noble soul, very much what you would expect of a winged being who belongs to a royal court. He conducts himself with a certain amount of careful grace, being raised to act in keeping with social niceities and to avoid offense when he speaks - a very important skill among the Skywrath, where the wrong word can spark a bitter feud or a simple misstep can lead to a bloody fight. While typically polite and well-spoken he won't hold back his more vibrant emotions, be they victorious cheers, genuine laughter or angry sobs. He is somewhat mild-mannered and tempered, contrary to typical Skywrath who are ill-tempered and petty, seeking retribution at the slightest percieved insult.

When Dragonus does vow revenge, he will obsess and refuse to let the matter settle until he feels the situation been set right by his own hand or according to his standards; an example of which would be taking flightless intruders up to the highest towers of the Eyrie and dropping them. This merciless streak is partly due to his confident sense of morality; he is extremely sure that he is 'a tool of the greater good' and that his actions are what is right. Thankfully, he is a good-hearted creature and will only seek revenge for crimes against his people or allies - which means that his ruthless attitude can be a shock to those unaware of the Skywrath and how they typically operate.

While Dragonus is extremely proud of his hertiage and will do all he can for Scree'auk, his goddess, he isn't shy about meeting and conversing with people who have different ideas, Gods and morals to him, so long as they have some common ground they can meet on. He enjoys engaging conversation about things like philosophy, strategy, astronomy and magic and, although he can get passionate about his views, he will listen respectfully and learn from people he sees as his equals or superiors. But some of his views are unshakeable and repeatedly questioning these will only annoy and irritate Dragonus.

When he completely devotes himself to something, Dragonus will pour his heart and soul into it. His magic is an excellent example, as he constantly pushed himself to master the most difficult and powerful of Skywrath sorcery, to the point of isolating himself to achieve it. Even when the desired outcome will take months or even years to achieve, he will patiently bide his time and continuously work towards his goal. He isn't afraid of self-sacrifice to meet his ends; for Shendelzare, he was willing to forfeit his life if it would revive and restore her to the Eyrie. He doesn't take failure well especially when he believes it's his fault, despite his innate pride.

◎ Powers/Abilities:
dota2.gamepedia.com/Skywrath_Mage#Abilities On the wiki

Dragonus is an exceptional flyer, capable of hovering in place, gliding and soaring far above the clouds. He's agile enough to perform 'dances' and can maintain his agility, height and speed while wearing armour. The payoff is that he cannot walk well on land, from inexperience and due to his taloned feet.

While not included as one of his ingame spells it's stated that Magic Missle, a short range stunning attack used by Vengeful Spirit, is a simple Skywrath technique, meaning that it's highly likely Dragonus knows how to use it as well. In a pinch, he will resort to more physical means to defending himself, making sure of the sharp talons on his hands and feet to defend himself.

◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
Avilliva's Staff: The staff of the Skywrath Mage, through which Dragonus channels his powers. It's shape is to resemble the talon of Scree'auk and is useless in the hands of any other than the assigned court mage, thanks to the magic that empowers both Dragonus and the staff itself.

Master Chocobo: In war, the right equipment makes the difference between escape and death, a gank or survival, victory or defeat. For this heroes purchase reliable, brave couriers to retrieve items from the shops near the battlefield and bring them to their masters in the midst of battle. For Dragonus, only a winged companion would do.

CEREALIA-Specific

◎ Element: Air. Born to soar above the clouds to the underbelly of the Heavens, it is the greatest dishonour and humilation of all Skywrath to lose their ability to fly; even if keeping their wings would cost them their life.
◎ Sense: Sight. Several of Dragonus' spells create light and, in battle, being able to see through the fog of war is one of the greatest advantages one can have.

◎ Seven Character Traits: + Mild-tempered, clever, noble | - Emotional, resolute, self-sacrificing | = Proud

Canon Info
What is the character's involvement in the story?: Dragonus is one of the Heroes drawn to partake in the great war of the Ancients, a war where ancient forces have summoned the greatest warriors of the world to allign with each other and endlessly fight to destroy the other. His involvement in the game depends entirely on if he is picked, what role he plays in the team build and how well the player controlling him plays. In the over-archng story, Dragonus is currently another pawn in the Ancient's War and has yet to be given a starring role in the supplementary comics that have been produced since the game's release.

Major relationships to canon characters (officially)?: The only character outright stated to have known him in his lore is the Vengeful Spirit, Shendelzare, who he failed to protect. Depending on which side they are on, as allies or enemies, she will either outright hate and attempt to kill him or ask him how the Skywrath fare and work alongside him. Other characters have response lines for meeting him on their team or killing him as a foe, but as this depends on who is picked in each game for which team, it can be difficult to confidently say what their relations are to each other.

It's relatively safe to say that Dragonus knows his fellow scholars quite well, namely Rubick, Invoker and Warlock as he will greet them as allies. Several other heroes greet him as allies, suggesting they are familiar with or have heard of him before meeting him in battle, such as Winter Wyvern, Ember Spirit and Terrorblade; Terrorblade is possibly the most interesting as the demon can mistake Dragonus for an angel or even suggest he would make 'a fine demon' himself.

What has been canonly mentioned about the character?:
Canon Lore
A highly placed mage in the court of the Ghastly Eyrie, Dragonus lives a troubled existence. Sworn by birth to protect whomever sits within the Nest of Thorns, he hates the current Skywrath queen with all his soul. As a youth, high-born, he was a friend and companion to the eldest Skywrath princess, Shendelzare, first in line for the Nest. He had loved her warmly and unshakably, but as his studies took hold, his mind turned to arcane learning and the mastery of Skywrath sorcery.

Obsessed with matters aetherial, he missed the mundane signs of courtly treachery that hinted at a plot against Shendelzare, and lost his chance to foil it. When the court was shaken by a swift and violent coup, he emerged from his studies to discover his oldest and dearest friend had been lost to him. The Nest of Thorns now belonged to Shendelzare's ruthless younger sister, and Dragonus could do nothing. The magic of the Skywrath Mage serves only the sworn protector of the Skywrath scion, so to act against the Nest would render him helpless. He clings to his post, believing it to be the best hope of one day restoring his true love to her rightful place. Meanwhile, his secret is known only to the goddess Scree'auk, whose magic it was transformed Shendelzare from a crippled physical creature into an embodiment of pure vengeful energy. While he dreams of restoring his beloved queen to the Ghastly Eyrie, he dreams even more desperately of restoring Shendelzare herself to a fully healed physical form. The duplicity of his role at court tortures him, for he is a noble and good-hearted creature; but the worst torture of all is imagining the hatred that Vengeful Spirit must hold in her heart for him.

Canon Powers
Arcane Bolt: Dragonus launches a slow-moving bolt of arcane magic in the shape of three entwining birds, dealing damage to an enemy unit based on Skywrath Mage's intelligence. This projectile provides flying vision and cannot be disjointed, chasing a foe until it strikes them.
Concussive Shot: Dragonus releases a long range shot that hits the closest hero within a long range. Upon impact, it deals damage and slows in an area of effect. It flies fast and also provides vision as it flies.
Ancient Seal: Dragonus seals the targeted unit with an ancient rune, silencing it and causing it to take additional damage from spells. The silence stops a foe from casting any spells.
Mystic Flare: The Skywrath Mage uses his ultimate magical ability to conjure a precise and violent mystical field that lays waste to his adversaries. Deals massive damage distributed evenly among any Heroes in the area over several seconds. This power is devastating against single target foes and does not split the damage between illusions, invulnerable or hidden enemies.
(This power can be upgraded by purchasing an Aghanim's Scepter, an immensely powerful relic that taps into a Hero's true potential. For Dragonus, this increases the potency by five times, reduces the cooldown to a mere five seconds and causes the Mystic Flare to last for twelve seconds).

Headcanon Info
Have you attempted this character before? Where/How long? On tumblr for about five months, against other castmates from the same game.

A brief idea of your headcanon on this character's personality/history: Dragonus isn't in love with Vengeful Spirit. While the lore is extremely clear that he adores her, I intrepret his feelings as a mix of childhood friendship, being raised alongside her, the love a devout member of court has for their ruler and regret/guilt over her death, leading to a single-minded obsession of restoring her to her throne or her healed state. He still loves her deeply just not romantically and, being an extremely emotional and passionate person, it can be easy to misread his feelings for being something more.

While Dragonus is personally noble and moral, he still serves and worships a goddess who delights in revenge and has no problems engaging and spending time with less righteous characters should they have a common interest or goal. A good example is his friendship with Warlock, a wizard who has captured a demon that he now summons to do his destructive bidding, and who Dragonus will greet with respect should they work together. While it doesn't alter his moral compass, it shows that he's willing and even eager to engage with others with different worldviews to himself, to learn more about the world and the magic they use. So long as someone is interesting and intelligent, Dragonus will at least attempt to speak and listen to them.

Skywrath society can be seen as very brutal to outsiders, as their upbringing encourages their petty, vindictive worldviews. Dragonus defies type thanks to the hidden protection of his parents. While many Skywrath are pushed from their lofty homes to force them to fly, Dragonus' mother pushed him - while his father hovered out of sight, to catch him if he didn't spread his wings in time. His mother was a key figure of the Royal Guard while his father was a member of the court; no-one suspected that they would secretly nurture Dragonus in spite of generations of tradition.

How will this character's presence likely impact players from that particular canon?: Dragonus would be relieved to find others from his world, although depending on who it is will affect how eagerly he works alongside them. But all characters will fight side by side if on the same team; in a situation where their world has been destroyed and they must try to rebuild it, he will certainly attempt to work alongside them at least.

Are you prepared to adjust your character's story in the event potential players from the same canon may find it conflicting to the canon?: I'm not keen on altering how Dragonus views Vengeful Spirit, as making him a lovesick, completely obsessed character would be uncomfortable to play and isn't in keeping with his ability to kill her ingame. However I'd be very interested and keen to discuss backstory information about the Skywrath and about how the War of the Ancients is conducted!
